It’s a quieter side of the city, with a lakeside setting and a warm elegance that only hints at its 175-year-old history. This is the grandest of the palace hotels this side of Switzerland, and designer Pierre-Yves Rochon did a wonderful job maintaining its aristocratic feel with deep, swirly carpets, oil paintings on the walls and beds with padded leather headboards. Then, of course, the lobby bar and the light-flooded Pavillon restaurant enclosed by glass are attractions in their own right, while the Terrace, with its statement lighting and banquettes in shades of lurid green is the city’s summer hot spot for light meals, iced cocktails and spectacular views.
