Cap Juluca, A Belmond Hotel, Anguilla

There is no hotel that draws more A-listers this side of Anguilla.. The rooms opening to views of Maundays Bay are the stuff of Caribbean travel dreams, but you might not spend much time looking out of your villa, with their cosseting luxury of four-poster beds, seagrass armoires, linen curtains and cool arabesque tiles underfoot. It’s a setting that makes afternoon naps a guiltless pleasure, and sitting down with a book in one of those twisted-abaca chairs a different kind of Caribbean cool. But we wouldn’t recommend you do that…not for more than a few hours at a time anyway. Maundays Bay in Anguilla, lapped by the bluest water, is a hotspot for aquatic life pursuits- think sailing, kayaking, scuba diving or snorkelling to the reefs off the shore- while the hotel’s ocean-facing pool and Arawak Spa make for a different, more laid-back kind of spiritual awakening. Then, of course, at sundown, the marshmallow-white beach beyond the hotel is the place to be; It’s isolated enough that no one comes here, and the chaises dotted around are perfect for Caribbean sunsets to rum punches and reggae music from the Cap Shack.
