Bairro Alto Hotel

The 87 rooms of the Bairro Alto Hotel are a product of another time…one when walls used to be hand painted and tiles came from Morocco. This is a hotel that weaves you into a you-could-only-be-in-Lisbon charm in a second, with its ochre-yellow facade and interiors that mix details of the original 1845 building and contemporary comforts. Like those antique Indian patterns and traditional Portuguese hues of saffron, blue and ivory everywhere you look, and those tile and marble details that glow under the hotel’s new lighting. But the biggest upgrade to the new Bairro Alto Hotel is on the culinary side. There is the hotel’s new signature restaurant up on the 5th floor with fabulous views over Tagus, a patisserie and all-day dining in the Mezzanine above the lobby, while the hotel’s rooftop terrace remains one of its biggest draw, with postcard views over Lisbon and the most beautiful sunsets over pastel-colored buildings.
